Everyone’s beautiful in their own way – but some people are generally seen as more attractive than others. Most people want their partner to be as attractive as possible, but new research is indicating that this might not be the best plan for a happy relationship.
If you’re male and not very attractive – rejoice! A study conducted by Florida State University and Southern Methodist University in Texas found that relationships are more likely to be successful if the woman is more attractive than the man, as reported by The Independent.
The study interviewed 113 heterosexual newlyweds in Dallas. They were all between 20 and 30 years old – and had all been married for less than four months.
The couples were asked questions about things like happiness, diet and fitness. They were also photographed by the researchers, who graded their attractiveness on a scale of 1 to 10.
The researchers found that men who were viewed as less attractive than their wives made more of an effort to please their wives, such as doing work around the house, buying gifts, improving their looks and even working on performing better in bed.
The researchers also looked at relationships where the man was considered to be more attractive than the woman – and the findings showed that this lead to negative effects for the relationship. The women in these relationships felt more compelled to diet and exercise excessively in order to please their husbands. The study concluded that this could lead to conflicts and inequality.
So if you’re a woman and single – it’s time to go out there and find a man less attractive than yourself. Men, on the other hand, should aim above their league.
Of course, these findings should be taken with a grain of salt, but I still think this type of research is quite interesting – and this piece of news definitely brought a smile to my face!
