With age comes a lot of good qualities such as experience, resources and wisdom.
But sometimes when life gives you something, it also takes something. Like your hair for example.
Statistics show that by the age of 35, 66% of all men experience some hair loss, and by the age of 55 a whopping 85% of men experience significantly thinning hair.
There’s a lot of stigma attached to losing your hair, and many men fear the day when they can no longer cover their scalp, and have to get rid of what few hairs are left.
But a new study shows that there’s no need to worry.
According to Dr Frank Muscarella at Barry University in Florida, going bald is not a bad thing – in fact, quite the opposite!
Dr Muscarella’s research indicates that bald men are seen as more intelligent, dominant and sexy than men with more hair.
Male pattern baldness is often inherited. What sparked the research was when researchers started questioning why male pattern baldness had not died out, despite being perceived as a bad thing. Shouldn’t natural selection assure that men with more hair outcompete men with less hair, thereby lessening the amount of bald men through the generations?
The participants in the study were asked to rank a group of men in four categories: physical attractiveness, aggressiveness, appeasement and social maturity. Other factors were honesty, intelligence, and social status.
Muscarella’s results, as reported by the Daily Mail, showed that bald men were seen as more honest, dominant and intelligent.
The only negative factor was that they were considered to be somewhat less physically attractive – but that was more than compensated for by scoring so high in the other categories!
According to this research, being bald is sexy and something to look forward to!
